I know that the first tank also has to be flushed out every 6 months or so - don't have a clue how to do that, either. I know that there are caps you remove on each of the tanks to add the chemicals, but I don't know how much I need to add, which one goes where, and where to buy replacement chemicals. I have it set up to backfilter daily, and I know it does, as I see the orange water coming out the backfilter pipe. Then it hits the tank where it is filtered - that filter backflushes on a timer, anywhere from daily to every 3rd day, IIRC. I've had to have the pipes taken apart and totally cleaned of packed in iron sludge before.

I think it's a screwy setup, as when you put the precipitated water through the pressure tank, it results in iron sludge building up in the tank and pipes. Like I posted, I can't get the well guy to service what he sells, so I guess I need to learn how to do it myself? :help: My setup has 2 separate filters - the first adds a chemical to cause the iron to precipitate, then it goes through a pressure tank, then into another filter that removes the iron and other minerals that have precipitated, then it goes out to the house. In conjunction with my other thread on the Sawyer filters, I'm hoping one of you might be familiar with the MacClean water filtration systems? I will probably also post this under the Homesteading Questions forum, but I was hoping that one of you (or more) might be familiar with the system I have on my well now.
